The Gift: A Very Quick Review
A good, dense book.
My biggest takeaway from The Gift...[1]
The vocabulary & habits of capitalism, value extraction, market exchange... it's all crept way too far into each of our individual lives. It's crept too far into how we collectively view our world.
We'd all do better to draw sharper lines between those parts of our lives & our world that are meant for dispassionate market exchange, and those parts that are meant for something more.
It's worth noting I stopped reading after Part I; Part II got fairly poetry heavy, and that wasn't why I was reading the book. ↩︎
