For the first time in this project, I'm actually familiar with all of the artists who were nominated for this year's Album of the Year award. (But will I like all of their albums??)
Playlist(s) of music in this post: Spotify
Chicago has a new name (after having some legal trouble with the actual Chicago Transit Authority), CSN adds a Y, and 5 of the 6 albums nominated are sophomore efforts for their respective artists -- Simon & Garfunkel the lone exception.
You'll have about ten days to listen to the nominees and make your own decisions before the official reveal.
The 1971 nominees for Album of the Year
- Bridge over Troubled Water, Simon & Garfunkel
- Chicago (aka Chicago II), Chicago
- Close to You, Carpenters
- Déjà Vu, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
- Elton John, Elton John
- Sweet Baby James, James Taylor
The current One Man Academy (OMA) project is listening to the Grammy's Album of the Year nominees and re-choosing winners, absent of historical context.
